Georgian Bay

Clear cutting of the old growth forests that once surrounded Georgian Bay began in the 1700s. It’s estimated that many of the hardwood trees were more than 1000 years old. They were so dense that as many as half of them sunk to the bottom of Georgian Bay when loggers tried to tow them to sawmills in giant log booms. One of those ancient trees, hauled recently from the bottom of the Bay, was used to make this nine-foot-long wall mounted sculpture.
